Since day one, ChillPig has had a party trick: type cheddar and it files itself under Dairy & Eggs before you can blink. As of this week, the trick has a sequel â the categories themselves now bend to your will. Collapse them, drag them, command them all at once. Here's the full story.
First, the Part That Was Already Magic
You never assign categories in ChillPig. You brain-dump â bananas, tortillas, ground beef, dish soap â and each item lands in its section: Fruits & Vegetables, Bakery, Meat & Seafood, Household. No dropdowns, no tagging, no filing. The list organizes itself while you think.
Why does this matter? Because grocery stores are organized by section, and a list that's organized the same way turns shopping into a single lap. No zigzagging back to produce because "apples" was scribbled between "batteries" and "yogurt." The list is the route.
New: The Sections Obey You Now
Auto-sorting answered "which section does this item belong in?" But three questions kept coming from you all:
- "Can I hide the sections I'm done with?"
- "My store starts with the bakery. Can the list start with the bakery?"
- "Can I fold the whole thing up and see everything at a glance?"
Yes, yes, and yes. Shipped, all three:
Tap a header to collapse it
Done with produce? Tap the category header and the whole section folds down to a compact card with a running count (that little 3/5 badge keeps score). Tap again to reopen. Your list physically shrinks as your cart fills â the most satisfying progress bar we've ever shipped.
Drag categories into your store's order
Every category header now has a grip handle (). Grab it and drag the section up or down â drop zones light up to show you where it'll land. Works with a mouse on desktop and your finger on mobile.
This is the one we're most excited about. Every store's layout is different, and now your list can match yours exactly: bakery first, frozen last, that weird aisle where your store keeps the peanut butter next to the napkins â wherever. Arrange it once, and the order sticks.
Expand all / Collapse all
One button above the list opens every section or folds them all. Collapse everything for a bird's-eye view of the whole trip; expand everything when it's time to shop. Simple, obvious, weirdly essential once you have it.
ChillPig says
Try this combo on your next trip: drag the categories into your store's aisle order at home, then collapse each section as you finish it in the store. By the checkout lane, your list is a neat stack of folded cards. Chef's kiss. Pig's oink.
The Fine Print (the Good Kind)
- Your layout is remembered on each device. Arrange the list on your phone and it greets you the same way tomorrow.
- Collapse state is per-person. Folding a section on your phone doesn't fold it on your partner's â everyone shops their own way on the same shared list.
- Nothing changed about adding items. Type, watch it sort itself, keep typing. The magic trick still opens the show.
Go Rearrange Something
The features are live for everyone, right now, on every list you already have. Open a list, find the grip handle, and put your bakery where it belongs.
